HELLSING

Version: Geneon Signature Series 2006 DVDs; English subtitles

This is a 13 episode series, and believe me when I say that 13 is NOT A NICE EPISODE COUNT! NYAH! I always end up getting into short series. DOUSHITE! Plus, evil Geneon did the 3 episodes a disc ploy. Thank god for Right Stuf's bargain bin. You might not be able to find this one in stores, but teh internets have some great deals. Used sets are readily available. This isn't Tenchi, after all.

Anyway, I can't stand the dub for this one, sorry. Alucard is fine, but Seras sounds like nails on a chalkboard. English accents are only cool on stern characters. Seras is not qualified for this accent. Everyone else is okay, but not exceptional. Listen to the original track. Alucard has a sexy Japanese voice, anyway. ;) The subtitles on these discs are inconsistent, though, so you need to use your brain. His name is ALUCARD. Her name is INTEGRA. Disc one is especially awful. The episodes on it have inconsistent translations. Sometimes the translators get it right, and sometimes they don't.

The story is fairly linear. There is a lot of action to keep you satisfied, and this is one of those vampire shows that actually sucks blood. I've seen some that hide it or use a metaphor to cover it up. Not here. Feasting happens, and the adult nature of the show enhances it. And this is an adult show. There is sexuality and naughty language. Poor Alucard gets blown to bits in practically every episode, and they don't shy away from making him a puddle of blood. If there is nudity, I don't remember it. I look at male characters when I watch anime, I don't go on a boobie hunt like many male fans. This one is not for the Twilight-happy tweens.

Unless they also appreciate Vampire Hunter D and Death Note. Then this show is for them. :D

Buy this one. You will want to watch it in one sitting, trust me. I got the series for about 20 dollars, so it's a light buy, and not a big loss if you go in blind.
